Into the gap

Nowheresville was as quiet on this Sunday morning as it was the night before. We headed to a Failase Gap museum. We arrived at 12:05 to find it closed for lunch at 12:00. The beauty of motorhoming is we could sit and have our lunch while we waited. The view was awesome even if you didn't know the history. The highlight of the museum was their movie showing the closing of the gap. Made it all understandable. (See also After the Battle Vol 8.)

Gace, aka nowheresville

The Polish view over the Dive valley

Still from the video.

A handy graphic of German losses in the gap.

Tournai sur Dive where the pocket was finally emptied. American and British troops met here and the last of the Germans surrendered.

We've taken one of our biggest drives - 1/5 hours - to the west. We broke 1000 km doing it though we are still laughably close to Dieppe where we came in. We are in a small place, Le Vey in the Orne river valley, surrounded by a zillion people. It is the start of the French holidays so we may find it a problem getting into places for a while, especially when we get back to the beaches.
