A pile of old rocks

Vitre's castle was almost as good as Fougeres' except it was closed for lunch so comparison wasn't possible. That seemed pretty silly as even 3/4 before lunchtime people would hesitate to go as they wouldn't get a decent look around. But then the town fell down in other areas as well. If you have a numbered map, why not put those numbers somewhere prominent to follow? And if you have numbered plaques, why aren't you using the same numbers? There seemed to be about three different numbering systems in place. Silly.

We had lunch under the walls then carried on. There were some pretty cool sights en-route, which I guess explains some of the back roads taken.

La Roche aux Fees - the rock of the fairies. Built overnight by fairies, or alternatively built around 4000 years ago by some pretty keen neolithic sun-worhippers. They really built to last, as that big stone weighs an estimated 45 tonnes!

That afternoon we passed a hotel and sculpture park. The Hotel appeared dead, but the sculptures were interesting. Some of the artists were actually familiar, so perhaps we are getting some culcha after all.

I got back to Reggie to find the bikes hanging off the back, held only by a bungy cord! The crossbar on the rack had come loose, probably while going over a speed bump. Goodness knows how long they'd been that way - hopefully not long. If that bungy had gone they would both have fallen and been dragged along until either we noticed or they broke free. I hate to think about it! I managed to refit the crossbar and it is now supported by one of those ratchet ties as well.
