A fine day by a river

We drove west toward Rennes but stopped on the Vilaine where it went through a string of lakes formed by shingle mining. There were some old mill buildings to give it a bit of character, and a ships chandler repairing an barge or two. There were fishers all along the bank, though I saw none catch any.

Lunch, a cuppa and a book. What better?

A bit of colour on a ruin

Reggie likes a good place to stop as much as the rest of us

There was the odd bod swimming and it looked very tempting, but J took the easy option.

We biked along the river for a bit and there was a bit of wildlife to see: herons like this one, a grebe (I think), swans with cygnets, and to top it all a couple of kingfishers. They are quite beautiful with brilliant blue on their backs and wings, but far too fast to photograph.

We're parked-up opposite an old people's home so expected it to be quiet, but the farmer on the other side has chosen tonight to harvest his maize! Still, he'll be finished by midnight...

I forgot to mention that we bought a small oven today to fit where our microwave is. We'll only be able to use it when plugged in, but we'll be able to do more than with the microwave. We hope.
