Back to the sea

From Fervaches we headed back to the sea, via St Lo, "capital of ruins". Well, not any more of course. This was in the American sector and didn't fall until mid-July. It has a nice city centre built in and around an old citadel, not much of which remains. We walked the ramparts then headed on. (See After the Battle Vol 138.)

The ramparts from the Milk Door. Leave your bottles at the gate please.

Our park-up is in Longues-sur-Mer and is actually in the carpark of the gun battery. This is one of the few that mounted any continued fire on the fleet and beaches, duelling with the fleet until 7th July. You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longues-sur-Mer_battery.

It wasn't all guns and concrete. We biked along to where paragliders were launching and skimming the cliffs, just as we'd watched in Denmark last trip.
