On 10 June 1944, so shortly after D-Day, units of 2 SS Panzer Division decided that par exemple a d'autres their lesson to the French resistance would be the destruction of a village and the massacre of its citizens. 643 villagers were murdered. The village has been left pretty much as the Germans left it (except the removal of bodies).
