More driving, over increasingly hilly and windy roads, but our lunch stop was particularly nice.
That's me on the rock, btw
We both went for a swim, out to a raft where I reprised my childhood by doing bombs and failing to backflip.
That's Reggie in the background of course
After lunch we passed a sign for a fort. Reggie turned automatically, I swear! The road looked a bit dodgy so we walked the last bit (unnecessarily). A benefit of that was seeing thousands of ants marching on the side of the road. The fort had been built in 1905 to piss the Swedes off. Norway was ruled by Sweden but had had enough so they started building some border forts. This got up Sweden's nose but a peace was negotiated and the fort dismantled.
Who's that spoiling the view?
What are the Swedes moaning about? It's only a model.
I don't think these were the guns installed as you can see mounts for emplaced guns. You can just make out the border lands through the trees.
A mount for an emplaced gun
The fort was hewn from solid rock. This was the ammo storage.
Reggie relaxing after a stressful drive on a shingle road
We skirted the edge of Oslo making for the hill that housed the Olympics ski-jump and, further up, the telecoms towers. Poor Reggie was a bit hot by the time we got to the top, and we did hold up a few cars en-route as well. We are parked with a view (through trees admittedly) of Oslo and the fjord.
Reggie cooling off. That's Oslo in the background.
There's a lake up on this hill, whether natural or man-made I'm not sure.
J contemplates pushing my bike down the hill and into the lake. But look at that lovely shiny new wheel!
Oslo
Because the Olympic venue is up here there is also a railway stop! We will take the train in, have a look around and train out again.
