The cheese shop sketch

The weather improved the next day so we went in to see the cheese market. They recreate the traditional cheese market and have other stalls as well.

And the Stadhuis. The two dudes on the left are doing the old style handslapping negotiation. They keep slapping until an agreement is made when they shake hands.

Not cheese!

More cheese

And some lovely fresh bread (to have with cheese)

We just wandered around soaking in the ambience, checking the old buildings and canals, etc, etc.

When students finish their high school exams they hang their backpacks out to celebrate. These can be seen all over the Netherlands at the moment and had us bamboozled until we asked a barman.

We've found that the Dutch have very public lives, in that their windows are right on the street and curtains seldom closed. They often have things displayed, and we've sometimes mistaken them for shop windows!
