I'm the king of the castle

We explored the castle in the morning. It is quite something.

These were used for various industries back in the day, but now the last wheel is hooked up to a generator to provide power for the visitors centre. Excellent idea!

The castle seemed very strong and I had just voiced the opinion that it would be hard to capture, when we got to the plaque that explained that  during the 100 years war a crack unit of 300 wall-climbers had scaled the walls and captured the castle. The guards must have been asleep, though as the town had been attacked first you have to wonder how they missed the kerfuffle. Anyway, shows how much I know about medieval castle assault techniques!

We visited an art gallery but it was closed due to Covid. We try to improve ourselves, but it isn't to be...

Joan of Arc is everywhere, including here.

From Fougeres we followed a Route Touristique (which seems to translate as 'a route of windy narrow roads') to Vitre.

Our rather plain park-up in Vitre. Quiet and secure for all that.
