Cordoba

Cordoba had between 500,000 and 1m citizens at its peak (more likely the lower end) and was the capital of Moorish Andalucia. Not surprising it has a stunning mosque now cathedral, a large Alcazar, and outside the city a Royal Palace.

If you get up early enough the Mezquite is free. We made the effort as it saves 26€.

The first thing that strikes you is it's size. It's not the same as a Christian cathedral that awes with height and space. This mosque is low but expansive and rows of columns channel your vision into the distance. The central area has been christianised now.

Layers on layers. The mosque was build over a Christian church - St Vincent's.

We were shunted out when Mass started, but there's more to see in town even if most attractions are closed for Mondays.

As it had been 35deg we were partially poached and retired to Reggie. We'll do two or three more attractions tomorrow when things are open again, then head off toward Granada. 39deg expected by the end of the week.
